How does Millfield differ from other nurseries?

Your child's happiness

Millfield has earned a reputation for consistent excellence over the last 27 years and we are known to provide a calm, relaxed and enjoyable nursery environment which is clearly reflected in how happy the children are in our care. Find out more

Family-based approach

We are not like your average nursery – the model of most nurseries is where children are separated by age into different areas or rooms. Children thrive in an environment where they are able to mix with other children of different ages. We provide a family based environment offering three large indoor rooms where children of 2-5 years can play, learn & thrive together. Find out more

Health, fitness, dance and fun!

We recognise your child’s physical health is a vital part of their early development, so each week we provide multisport and dance lessons with professional qualified instructors to promote healthy learning through a variety of fun physical activities.

I’m worried about moving my child - should I?

Over the last 27 years, hundreds of children have successfully and happily benefited from being moved to Millfield. We don’t take children under the age of two, therefore, the majority of our children have successfully moved to us from other nurseries, baby units and child minders. Parents often remark when viewing the nursery, “how happy all the children at Millfield are.” This is down to the nursery environment and the skill and experience of our caring, highly qualified staff team.

Children under four move very easily and are very egocentric. We recognise that each child is an individual, so we work closely with you to ensure a stress free, smooth transition for your child.

We are currently registered to admit children from the age of 2 to when they start school.

How are new children/parents helped to settle in?

We pride ourselves on enabling children to settle in quickly. Starting a new nursery can present lots of new experiences which your child may not have come across before. This might be confusing to start with, especially if your child is accustomed to spending much of their time with you.

To overcome this, we offer free settling in visits before your child starts nursery. To begin with, you can spend time in the nursery with your child. Then we encourage you to leave your child for short periods of time, until they are familiar with the nursery and its routines. This procedure has the added bonus of giving you a clear idea of what your child will do in nursery.

Can I come and view the nursery?

Yes, you are more than welcome and we highly recommend you look around our nursery. Not all nurseries are the same and a visit is the only way to experience and appreciate how unique, exciting and different Millfield is. Ideally we ask that you make an appointment to view Millfield so that Liz Miller, the Nursery Manager, will be available to show you around and answer any questions you may have.

What meals are provided?

Mid-morning we provide milk and a fruit snack. At around midday the children have a freshly-cooked lunch. The children have a fruit snack mid-afternoon and a light tea is then provided around 4pm.

Adults closely supervise the children and serve the meals. We monitor exactly what the children are eating and drinking and encourage the children try a bit of everything. We also encourage good manners and the use of cutlery. We are able to accommodate all kinds of dietary requirements.

All meals are included in the fees. For more detailed information please see our Meal Times page.
